Conference in Jawor in Poland

In the scope of Czech – Polish partnership in Jawor there took place a conference on 26th of February, whis was aimed at the mineral richness of Sudetenland. There sounded lectures of prof. M. Sachanbińsky from Wroclaw university about the mineral raw materials of Sudetenland and T. Řídkošil about the precious stones of Silesia in the full lecture hall in the Regional museum in Jawor. The precious stones of Silesia come in useful in the Czech sights, too. Mirosław Szkiłądź informed about the history of mineral mining in Silesia. The conference was attended by students form Jawor, Turnov and staff of universities and persons interested in history of mining and geology. The conference was realised in the scope of project Treasury (Skarbiec) in the scope of Czech – Poland programme End III (the registratration number: CZ.3.22/2.2.00/08.00640).

Meeting of European Geoparks

On 18th – 21st of September 2008 took place the 22nd meeting of European Geoparks UNESCO in Bohemian Paradise. The European Geoparks Network was established in year 2000 and now it has 37 members. This select organization has clearly defined internal structure which includes two coordinators from each of the Geopark, representatives of UNESCO and International Union of Geological Sciences, IUGS. The meeting of the Coordinating Committee of European Geoparks Newtork take place twice annually in the different geoparks. The Coordinating Committee resolves every decisions of the Network including acceptance of important documents, another development of geoparks inclusive the acceptance of new members. The Bohemian Paradise has a great honour to be a host of so important meeting.
